ABOUTKICC

WEEKLY RIDES
KICC is a volunteer led bike club for all, although really we meet once a week on a Sunday Morning for our kid's club.  Our rides are taken on trails where skills can be challenged and refined but foremost the led rides are about fun with your friends. Our leaders are qualified, insured and are members of British Cycling and the PVG scheme. We also have a group of coaches responsible for skills assessment, coaching and Race School. In 2017/18 KICC was shortlisted for the following awards: DMBinS: Best MTB Club, DMBinS: Local Hero Award, Live Borders: Best Event (Schools XC Championships). 2019/20 KICC was crowned Scottish MTB Club of the year. 2020 - we're please to have a shortlisted 'volunteer of the year' with us too.
If you would like to volunteer your time to help please email Chris or contact us
Local Heroes & Visiting
KICC, Scottish MTB Club Of The Year 2019 & Scottish Cycling Club of The Year 2020 (and nearly '21 ,'22&'23),  is right in the middle of the best biking community in the world - The Tweed Valley Forest Park. Our riders are used to seeing some of the best bikers in the world on their trails every week! Many of our leaders are volunteers in the community and can be found out with Mountain Rescue, Scouts, Guides or trail building with the TVTA. That is awesome for our next generation of racers and also visitors to the Tweed Valley who can even visit and take their bikes on the X62, our public bus! Or take advantage of regular uplift by Adrenalin Uplift.
The majority of our session are led rides but if your rider is interested in local events, we try to keep up to date with your opportunities on our events and about KICC  page.
SAFEGUARDING
KICC works with groups of young people in potentially hazardous environments. To minimize risk we group children of similar ability and maturity before taking them on the trail, generally with 2 adults to 7 children.  All our leaders are checked under the PVG scheme to ensure they are not barred from working with children. Every leader is trained in child protection and outdoor first aid. Overseeing the welfare of the riders, the club aims to have two welfare officers who can assist with any concerns about the welfare of a child in our care. They can be contacted by email:  WPO@kicc.bike.
If you have a concern and can not contact a club welfare officer or feel it is inappropriate to do so please contact children1st for advice. You can click the link below to chat online to a member of their team.

Being Headstrong means KICC is proud to pilot this new initiative with our fellow local clubs: Cranked, PCC and The Moorfoot Runners. KICC has also signed up to the SAMH mental health charter. Links to help you with your mental health can be found here: Headstrong Toolkit

Parents and Leaders Information.
New member requests should come via the contact form below. We are just about always full at 100 members but we try to accommodate new riders when we can. The quickest way for your child to access the club is to volunteer as a qualified leader, this also adds capacity to the club.

Nearly all our leaders have initially come forward as keen parent helpers but have undergone training and safeguarding checks. Information on how the club works are downloadable using the following links:
Being a leader at KICC comes with many benefits, not least seeing the kids progress and become more confident on their bikes.

We group our riders by age and ability . We've named all our groups after local hills, ranked the names by hill altitude or attitude ( the types of trail on the hills)  and we look to progress children within their groups to the point they can confidently move up.

We have 6 groups at present and accommodate children from the ages of 5-18 so your child progresses within a group until being moved up a group as they get older. With a hopeful engagement of 13 years in the club and 6 groups we don't move every child up every year.

If you would like to join us as a leader or even if you would like to get in touch, please fill out  the contact form and we will get back to you.

We currently hold a waiting list for new members. Because our club runs in groups (broadly grouped by age and stage) and because we try to keep our membership even between boys and girls we sometimes look to replace like for like from our waiting list. Some under represented groups may be offered places ahead of others to ensure the club sustains a balanced vibe which allows children to make strong and lasting friendships.
